What exactly is polypropylene?
Carpets for GG Bailey’s Car Couture™ line of custom car mats are made from 100 percent polypropylene. But what is polypropylene? Don’t worry; polypropylene (also called olefin) isn’t the final ingredient in some witch’s brew. It’s simply a plastic polymer than can be used for a lot of different purposes, including some of GG Bailey’s car and home mats.
Polypropylene is used to make:
Activewear like Under Armor
If you thought that polypropylene can’t feel soft just because it’s plastic, think again. Its water resistant nature means polypropylene is often used to repel sweat from the skin.
Food storage containers
Yep, polypropylene can be used both as a hard plastic and a soft fiber. Many food storage containers use polypropylene — including Tic-Tac lids!
Polypropylene is resistant to chemicals, which is why the polymer is widely used in the medical industry as labware, medical devices, and sanitary packaging.
Polypropylene is the best choice for carpets that are both luxurious and practical. Here’s why we chose polypropylene as the fiber for our Car Couture™ and home mats:
- Polypropylene is resistant to moisture and mold, making it a great option for spaces where the carpet will get wet, like beside a bathtub, underneath a pet’s water bowl, or in the car.
- Polypropylene is dyed and colored before it’s made into a fiber, not after. So unlike printed mats, you can put your Car Couture™ or home mat in high-traffic areas and your design won’t slowly disappear.
- Don’t be afraid to put one of our home mats in a protected or indoor doorway. Our polypropylene mats are woven, giving you extra protection from wear and tear.
- All of these qualities combined make for a floor mat that is automatically stain resistant and easy to clean if you have a spill.
Polypropylene has lots of practical benefits, and it can also be incredibly stylish. Check out our Car Couture™ and home mat designs in leopard, zebra, tiger, and oriental patterns!
